G-O-O-D M-O-R-N-I-N-G, Good Morning, Hey! Hey! Good Morning!
On my way to work today, I called my dad to remind him it was move-in day at Cornell College. You might wonder why I would do that. I like to call and remind him of the day he didn’t hug me good-bye when he dropped me off at college several years ago. I would imagine there are moments when he is frustrated about my choice to work on college campuses for the rest of my life. Every year he gets reminded of the day he didn’t hug me good-bye.
We’ve spent the last several days in New Student Orientation training, anticipating your arrival today and could not be more excited to have you arriving on the Cornell College campus. The NSO staff are ready to help you feel welcome and the Residential Life staff have been making sure your rooms are ready for move-in. We’ve done the Ice Bucket Challenge, spent a day building our team, planned a special surprise to happen over lunch on the Orange Carpet in the Thomas Commons, and worked to make sure each aspect of your first days are both enjoyable and make sure you are settled.
Today you’ll spend time going through the Validation and Move-In process, exploring campus, eating lunch, meeting with your Peer Advocate, going through the official welcome to the college, saying good-bye to family or others who helped you move-in, and then having dinner.
While I wish the sun was shining a little brighter today and this week, I know we’ll have a great time over the course of the next few days. And, hug your family goodbye, if you have a moment. I’ll see you at Validation!
