Description: Students interested in learning more about the arena of public affairs are invited to apply. Placements are based on the academic and professional goals of students. When applying, students should clearly articulate what site they are interested in  as part of their personal statement. Examples of potential sites include:

ROGERS FELLOW IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Organization: University of South Carolina

Location: Columbia, South Carolina

Timeframe: Summer 2013, Fall 2013, Spring 2014

Deadline: Third Friday of blocks 1, 3, 5, and 7

Description: The Fellow will be matched with a site on or near the University of South Carolina. Possible projects include research on pelagic fishes in the Gulf of Mexico, research on policies and practices related to environmental law, or sustainable seafood practices involving the seafood industry, tourism, and economics. Past Rogers Fellows have been placed with the Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Studies and at the South Carolina Aquarium.

CORNELL FELLOW IN URBAN POLICY DEVELOPMENT

Location: Washington, DC

Timeframe: Summer 2013, Fall 2013, or Spring 2014

Deadline: Third Friday of blocks 1, 3, 5, and 7

Description: The fellow will work on a project related to the development of effective national urban/suburban policy. Applicants should have an interest in understanding federal-city relationships and how federal policies impact the needs of urban communities. The specific fellowship project will be dependent on the interests of the fellow and the work of the Conference at the time the fellow will be on site.

CORNELL FELLOW IN REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT (LOEBSACK)

Organization: Office of Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-IA)

Location: Washington, DC

Timeframe: Summer 2013, Fall 2013, Spring 2014

Deadline: Third Friday of blocks 1, 3, 5, and 7

Description: A legislative fellowship serving in all areas of the Congressman’s personal office. Responsibilities include: research, writing and editing responses to constituent letters and requests; attending hearings and briefings in specific legislative areas; carrying out projects in specific issue areas; and, performing a variety of administrative tasks including fielding calls from constituents and greeting visitors. Students will also be charged with writing a policy memo as part of the fellowship experience. Applicants must have an interest in government, and possess excellent writing and research skills. The Fellow must be willing to work at a variety of activities, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants should be eager to learn more about the legislative process, and want to be part of a hardworking team, dedicated to serving the citizens of the 2nd District of Iowa.

Description: A legislative fellowship serving in all areas of the Senator’s personal office. Responsibilities include: research, writing and editing responses to constituent letters and requests; attending hearings and briefings in specific legislative areas; carrying out projects in specific issue areas; and, performing a variety of administrative tasks including fielding calls from constituents and greeting visitors. Applicants must have an interest in government, and possess excellent writing and research skills. The Fellow must be willing to work at a variety of activities, and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants should be eager to learn more about the legislative process, and want to be part of a hardworking team, dedicated to serving the citizens of Iowa. Time may be split between the Senator’s office in Washington, DC and in a district office in Iowa. Students will also be charged with writing a policy memo as part of the fellowship experience.
