Description: Students will be placed in a research laboratory at the Carver College of Medicine or School of Public Health. The choice of laboratory will depend on the availability of research positions. Previous students have worked in laboratories in cell biology, molecular physiology, and environmental chemistry. Students should include a statement of their research interests and how this experience would fit with their future goals as part of their personal statement. Prior research experience is preferred, but not required. Additionally, if you have made a previous obligation to complete summer 2013 research at Cornell, it is important that you keep this commitment.

Description: The Fellowship will be conducted under the supervision of a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa. This faculty member studies the consequences of brain injury and chronic neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. The Fellow will be involved in collection and analysis of data from patients and will need to do substantial background research during the Fellowship. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards possible in long-term studies of medical and psychological aspects of human functioning.
The successful applicant must exhibit attention to detail and have strong writing, speaking, and conceptual skills. Background in the social sciences and biology will be considered in reviewing applications.
This fellowship is available only during the academic year and the student must apply at least two terms prior to the desired start date.

Description: The Fellowship will be conducted under the supervision of a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa. The focus of this scholar’s work is to develop pragmatic psychotherapeutic treatments for patients with comorbid psychiatric and chronic medical conditions. Currently, she is testing the efficacy of a 1-day behavioral treatment on functioning, depression, and pain in patients with comorbid depression and migraine. She is also interested in elucidating psychological mediators and moderators of treatment effect. The Fellow will do background research on the issues involved in the research, be involved in data collection and analysis, participate in meetings of the research team, and attend other events at the University Hospitals and Clinics.

Description: The Fellowship will be conducted under the supervision of a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa. This researcher studies the medical long-term effects of psychiatric medications. The Fellow will be involved in an ongoing study of the safety of antidepressants in 15-20 year olds. The work will involve training in interviewing skills, involvement in visits with research participants, attending weekly lab meetings, and data entry. The Fellow will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards possible in long-term studies of medical and psychological aspects of human functioning.

Description: The fellowship offers a highly-motivated student a research experience with a premier research laboratory. The fellow may partner with successful researchers on various topics including atherosclerosis, lypoproteins, leukocyte biology, nutrition, obesity prevention and other areas related to the Baylor College of Medicine’s Children’s Nutrition Research Center. Advanced students in the sciences with strong laboratory experience preferred. Candidates should consult with Julie Barnes in the Dimensions Resource Center prior to submitting an application.
