One Book, One Campus, One Community
September 15th, 2008It’s One Book, One Campus, One Community week!
This means there are many events occurring this week which you won’t want to miss! Debra Marquart, author of our One Book selection for the year, The Horizontal World: Growing Up Wild in the Middle of Nowhere, will be giving our Opening Convocation address on Thursday, September 18, at 11 am in King Chapel. The title of Deb’s address is “Proceed With a Thousand Voices Singing.” And we look forward to hearing her speak about the ways our collective voices can make a difference in our communities.
Opportunities for More:
Come join Jen Rouse and Deb Marquart for dinner in Harlan Dining Room. We’ll be there this Thursday from 5:30-6:30. Bring a tray in from Scramble and we’ll chat!
After dinner, join us for a reading. Deb will be reading from The Horizontal World in Hedges Conference Room and signing books afterwards.
And stay for a book discussion afterwards in Magee Dining Room. There will be coffee and cookies to keep us going!
Friday Night Fun
Deb’s band The Bone People will be playing on the OC Friday night, starting at 8. Come to hear some great jazz-poetry, rhythm & blues. Here’s a bit about the band from Debra Marquart’s Web site: “In live performances, The Bone People seamlessly move from storytelling to poetry to song, drawing connections between different genres and art forms. Since the group’s inception in 1992, The Bone People have worked to create a sound that blends the lyricism of poetry with the power of acoustic and electric music– to find that small sliver of a world where the two can co-exist without either one being compromised.”
